Remember when the weirdest Internet craze was 'planking'? And then of course there was that bizarre 'owling' thing that happily died out.
Well, the interwebs' got a new craze called 'neknomination' where basically you make a video of yourself drinking unsafe amounts of alcohol and then challenging someone to match or beat you.
As you might expect, the dares have gotten increasingly weirder, with dozens of people posting videos of themselves drinking cocktails with live goldfish.
The craze has already claimed at least two lives, after a pair of young men in Ireland drank a stupid amount of booze and then drowned in a river.
These video challenges are generally posted on Facebook, but the company said that while it is an intrusive monster bent on selling every last bit of your privacy, Facebook policy does allow people to post stupid stuff.
Actually, here is Facebook's official statement: "We do not tolerate content which is directly harmful, for example bullying, but controversial or offensive behaviour is not necessarily against our rules. We encourage people to report things to us which they feel breaks our rules so we can review and take action on a case by case basis. We also give people the ability to remove themselves from an uncomfortable conversation through tools such as untagging and blocking."
The 'neknomination' craze is believed to have originated in Australia...which begs the question why it isn't called a "neckie".
In any case, condolences to the families of those who died from this dumb-ass craze...but on the plus side, maybe evolution is weeding out some undesirable genes.
And here's a helpful tip should you find yourself 'nominated' to do something stupid: just say no.
