In an unexpected deal Facebook has bought the smartphone messaging service Whatsapp for $19 billion. Almost as surprising as the deal is the amount of money Facebook offered. Whatsapp cofounders Yan Koum and Brian Acton accepted $16 billion in cash and $3 billion in restricted stock units making it the biggest buyout since AOL snagged TimeWarner.
