Is it better to take it?
Is it better to fight?
Will I wind up in traction?
Beaten out of the night,
Will I ever win?
This torrid war affair,
Before the grave snares me
Places me right there...
With one foot in the grave,
One foot in the grave,
One foot in the grave,
One foot in the grave,
I think I’m dead!
Will the world beyond
Be a better place?
Will I have the right?
To look on any face,
Treat the populace
As a humbled kin,
And shake the hand of Peter
As I’m ushered in,
With one foot in the grave,
One foot in the grave,
One foot in the grave,
One foot in the grave,
I think I’m dead!
So do I live aloft?
In a paradise,
With the saints of god
Right before my eyes,
Or did I live before
In this hidden plain,
But couldn’t see
Cause I whined all day,
With one foot in the grave,
One foot in the grave,
One foot in the grave,
One foot in the grave,
So am I dead?
