Hong Kong's pro-democracy protesters have taken back a key zone in the heart of the city.

Police had cleared large areas on Friday, and demonstrators initially dispersed.

But in the early hours of Saturday, hundreds came back in force.

After the clashes, the government said 26 were arrested, and 15 officers were injured.

Demonstrators say they will continue to demand for free elections in 2017.

"I would like to say, it would be impossible to solve the issue by clearing us. After you do a clearance, we will just come out again. What we really need is for the government to face us, to have a dialogue with us."

Hong Kong's pro-Beijing leader CY Leung has offered another chance for talks with student leaders next week.

Plans for dialogue has been scrapped numerous times since protests started, with neither side willing to compromise.
