Dropping my daughter off
for her first day of school,
I hold out my hand to aid her.
“Daddy I don’t need any help
because I am now a First Grader”
I stand by the door and hover.
A soft smile upon my lips thinking
about all that you will soon discover
Into the academic world I send her
A hug and a kiss for luck
And to the teacher she goes
And by a single thought I am struck
that my little girl is growing up
“Daddy I don’t need any help,
because now I am a First Grader”
