Under the pink glow
of the plastic lamp
she brushes her
fine hair and sprinkles
it with glitter.
Every so often
she would blow
a kiss to one of
the many boy band
posters which
covered her pink walls.
With untrained hands
she painted her face
with blue and pink
cheap make up.
Around her neck
she placed a plastic
necklace that came
free with her latest
barbie doll.
Nearly tripping on
her oversized stilletos
she carefully crept
down the stairs.
The light in the lounge
pinpointed her mothers
position,
crumpled and drunk
asleep with oblivion.
In the kitchen,
within the shadows
Father readied himself.
