I saw an elephant in a tree –
The elephant looked down at me!
I did not stare, for thought it rude
But wondered what he did for food
For on that tree the leaves were few;
There wasn’t much for him to chew.
So trying not to be nosey
I called to him up in the tree
“hello there, are you in distress?
Can I save you from this mess?
At first it seemed he did not hear
But then he shed a heavy tear.
“Thank you sir, as you can see
I’m trapped here in this wretched tree
And all because, to feel alive,
I really wanted to sky-dive
But the parachute I could not steer
And that is why I’m stuck up here
“And I’ve been here for many days
With nothing but these leaves to graze
Too scared to move in case I fall
My mouth and throat too dry to call,
For very little have I drunk,
Just raindrops sucked into my trunk
Now I was in a quandary
Should I try to climb the tree
With a bale of hay strapped to my back
And a hundred buns in a burlap sack?
And surely he’d need a drink or two –
Two gallons of Perrier ought to do.
