When a son comes to earth
He is suckled by mother at birth
She smiles at him with pride
As he grows up by her side
She teaches him to avoid strife
She teaches him reverence for life
When he becomes a man
She no longer holds his hand
He now must make a choice
To serve society or his inner voice
He has learned - You shall not kill
Society says - You must and you will
If society is whom he is for
He will surely go to war
If he listens to his inner voice
Killing will not be his choice
How do we take mothers' gifts of life
And turn them into perpetual strife
What mother raises her son
To spread death to other mothers' sons
Mothers' Day is a cruel joke
As we turn mothers' sons to smoke
When we ask them to cry for the deceased
Instead of finding ways of peace
