The Norwegian National Library has found the long-lost Disney film "Empty Socks" from 1927 and restored and digitized it.

The movie was found in 2008 but was only identified as the missing film earlier this year.

Archivists at the National Library had help from the United States in determining what it could be since the film was on reels which were not clearly labeled.

An American animation historian recognized the story as "Empty Socks", an Oswald the Lucky Rabbit feature, which was a forerunner of Mickey Mouse.

Disney produced a series of 26 films with the character before Mickey Mouse was created in 1928.

Digital copies of the restored film have been sent to the Walt Disney Company in the U.S., while the original copies remain in Norway's National Library archives, where it will be screened on December 17.
