The acclaimed Uruguayan writer and journalist Eduardo Galeano died Monday at the age of 74 in his hometown of Montevideos, Uruguay, after a battle with lung cancer. The author of 35 books is best known for "The Open Veins of Latin America," which tells the story of five centuries of colonial and imperial plunder. "The world is made of stories," said Galeano and he himself was a master storyteller. Bolivian President Evo Morales hailed him as "a master of decolonization and of the liberation of our nations. Pakistani writer and activist Tariq Ali spoke of his friend and colleague as a unique person on the Latin American continent.
