EC to face power of persuasion

The Coalition for Free and Fair Elections (Bersih) 2.0 has returned after an absence of two years cleansing itself of political parties, vowing not to take to the streets to achieve its aims.

In its reincarnated form, Bersih's first act was to handover a memorandum listing 15 electoral reform recommendations to the Election Commission (EC) this morning.

Among the recommendations was one that urged the EC to take every possible step to register the over four million new voters nationwide.

Coalition chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan said they have received many complaints of obstruction in registering new voters, and it is the EC's responsibility to assist them in getting onto the electoral roll.
