A music theory app for all aspirin musicians. Music theory is the key to understanding the mechanics of music. It opens the door to a myriad of new approaches to composing and performing, as well as giving students the tools to fully understand music they can already perform.

Music Theory - Chords in Keys is a music theory app for musicians of all tuned instruments. It's available for iOS and Android devices.

The app prompts users to identify chords within a each of the four most common 7-note scales. That is: major, natural minor, harmonic minor and melodic minor. First the user selects a 7-note scale and whether they want to work triads of sevenths. For example: major scale / triads. Next the user is shown a key and degree such as Key: Bb Degree: IV. The user must then identify what chord is built on this degree of the scale. In this case the answer is

Users can reveal the answer as well the notes in the chord and notes in the scale if help is required. Extensive help pages are included to help musicians who are new to music theory.

This music theory app also includes audio. After revealing the answer, users can click 'Play chord'. They will hear the tonic chord for that key followed by the chord in question, followed by the tonic again. This feature helps users learn to recognise the sounds of each chord within the context of the scales.
