Nepal, Feb 03 (ANI): Mahanto Thakur, president of Madhesi Peoples Rights Forum, said there was a broad consensus among parties representing ethnic communities to restart talks with the government of Nepal to resolve their issues. The Madeshis have been on war path since Nepal adopted a new constitution in September last year. They have been demanding redrawing of the boundaries of the provinces in Terai region and their representation in Parliament on the basis of population. Nepal's Terai region comprises 51 percent of the country's population but has only one-third of seats in Parliament. There have been several rounds of talks between the government representatives and Madhesi protesters but they have remained inconclusive. Even the recent amendment to the constitution failed to satisfy the protesters. The ongoing agitation has led to severe economic crisis in the Himalayan nation which is not getting its supplies from India as protesters have blocked the borders.
