ADNAN OKTAR: "Does suffering include anxiety, distress, sadness, and negative thoughts?" Of course it does. One can feel distressed for no reason. We see this in the parable of the Prophet Ayyub (pbuh). He says "Satan has afflicted me with exhaustion and suffering." If he was injured or lost an organ, he wouldn't use such a term. What is the affliction of satan mentioned here? It is psychological distress. We also see in the verse that the cure God suggests to him for this affliction is for relieving the distress. For example, God says, "Stamp your foot", move, in other words do some exercise. "Here is a cool bath and water to drink." In other words, God says, "Try hard and cold water will spring out from the ground. Bathe in it." Indeed, taking shower is refreshing. And He says, "Drink it" as dehydration may cause distress as well. This is a scientific fact. Thirst causes distress. Taking a bath relieves one's distress, it is refreshing. And so does movement, and doing exercises. For example, lack of exercise leads to distress. And when he followed these three advices of God, he felt relieved and refreshed.
GOKALP BARLAN: Teacher, in another verse of the Quran, God says "...and sent you down water from heaven to purify you and remove the taint of satan from you."
ADNAN OKTAR: Of course, this verse refers to this topic as well. It makes them feel as if they took a shower as they become relieved and freshened. In short, we clearly understand that extreme hot, thirst, dehydration, lack of bathing, lack of exercise, and inactivity cause distress.
