France reached the semi-finals of the Davis Cup after Nicolas Mahut and Julien Benneteau beat Jamie Murray and Dominic Inglot 7-6 (9-7) 5-7 7-5 7-5 to give them an unassailable 3-0 lead in Rouen on Saturday (April 8).
With world number one Andy Murray missing from the British team, France came into Saturday's doubles match with a 2-0 lead after comfortable wins for Lucas Pouille and Jeremy Chardy on Friday (April 7).
Mahut and Benneteau took a tight first set in a tiebreak after saving one set point, but the British hit back in the second set, taking it 7-5 after breaking serve in the eleventh game.
Murray and Inglot then broke to lead 3-2 in the third set, but the French duo came back with a break in the eighth game and another in the 12th to take the set 7-5.
The fourth set went with serve until the 12th game, when the French took the match on their second match point to win in three hours, 23 minutes.
France will play Serbia in the semi-finals, after they took an unbeatable 3-0 lead over Spain in Belgrade on Saturday.
