Privateers and Egg Shen both escape from the brig of one of Deacon's clockwork armada ships. After setting foot in Captain Avery's office for the first time, Privateers get him as a companion. Zang Cha, Egg Shen's crown shop counter part, can be purchased by any class for 5,995 crowns after completing the quest "That Dirty Rat."
Egg Shen has a total of 2 promotions, one at level 13 goose student to goose disciple, and another at level 46 from goose disciple to goose master. Each promotion is given after completing the quests, "The Iron Monkey," and "East Meet's West" respectively. Zang Cha, however, gets his promotions at level 13 and 46 for 1,400 and 4,600 gold respectively.
Egg Shen and Zang Cha are the chain gods of Pirate101 especially vs musketeer companions. Some players will use companions like Bill Peacock, Nausica, and other musketeer companions with counter musketeer epics but not overwatch. When players bring out these counter musketeer companions, I'll bring Zang Cha and beat them every time. Zang is also great as a counter swashbuckler companion for witchdoctors. Just use "crow's song" or "raven's cry" to give an extra first strike and 2 extra squares worth of movement and you'll be good to go. Zang Cha is just an all around great companion, and if I were to pick a class to buy him on it would be either musketeer or witchdoctor.
If you have either Zang Cha or Egg Shen, here's the 2 best ways to set him up. The first setup is the most effective for all classes except witchdoctor. If you use the first setup, for epics go with rank 3 blade-storm, rank 2 relentless, rank 1 second chance, and the rank 1 first strike he already comes with, and for talents go with rank 4 accurate, rank 4 tough, rank 4 rough, rank 4 strength, and rank 1 dodgy. The second setup is mostly used by witchdoctors. If you use the 2nd setup, for epics go with rank 2 relentless, rank 3 blade-storm, and rank 2 first strike, and for talents go with rank 4 accurate, rank 4 tough, rank 4 rough, rank 5 strength, and rank 1 dodgy.
