On Tuesday, Russia's elite dismissed the United States' publication of a sweeping list of oligarchs close to the Kremlin as nothing more than a "telephone directory" of the rich, through a Kremlin spokesman said that it had the potential to harm the image of Russia's political leaders. The list names top businessmen, including the heads of two of Russia's biggest banks, metals magnates and the boss of the state gas monopoly, as oligarchs close to Russian power.
