Lips_ The Deadly Human Weakness

William Branham had a very unusual fascination with the human lips. In the mythology created for his "Message" cult of personality, lips were everything from a sexual organ to a significant flaw that could be deadly if unprotected. Branham apparently read a newspaper article about a man that had a strong allergic reaction to a bee sting in the lips that resulted in a fatality, and falsely assumed that every human -- allergy or not —would suffer the same fate if they did not protect their lips. In 1959, Branham told his audience never to squeeze their lips, reminding them that the man died of the bee sting. He warned the men to be extra cautious with their razors because of what he called “main nerves.”

While there are over a million different nerve endings in the human lips, fear of death from accidental lip injury has no basis in reality. If this were the case, every child who stumbles, falls, and scrapes their lips on the pavement or rough ground would be hospitalized. Branham’s motivation for misleading listeners appears to have been part of a strategy to introduce one of the cult’s most unusual doctrines: sexual intercourse through lip contact.

According to William Branham, the human sex glands are in the lips, and cult members who are dating should never kiss. Branham said that when a man kisses a woman, they are mixing sex glands. Worse, children who watch movies or television shows where two actors kiss are guilty of watching pornography: the actors were committing sex acts when their lips touched.
