High blood pressure, medically known as hypertension, refers to the excessive force exerted on the walls of the arteries as blood flows through them. It is measured using two values: systolic pressure and diastolic pressure. Systolic pressure represents the force when the heart contracts, while diastolic pressure represents the force when the heart is at rest. A blood pressure reading above 140/90 mmHg is generally considered high.
