K-pop fans urge SKorea's entertainment industry to end plastic use
Young K-pop fans are urging South Korea's entertainment companies to end plastic use in the industry which has needlessly created mountains of plastic in its home market by churning out CDs that most fans don't even listen to. Only 8 percent of South Koreans use physical albums to listen to music, according to the Korea Creative Content Agency's 2024 white paper on the music industry. Kpop4planet activists called it a good sign that entertainment companies were releasing albums using recycled material or other options, but it could be greenwashing if they would not change their marketing strategy of making multiple plastic albums.
