Chinese military drills send 'political message' to Taiwan, US, Japan says analyst
China's recent military exercises around Taiwan are intended to send “a political message” to the island, as well as the United States and Japan, says Foreign Affairs Analyst at MERICS, Claus Soong. “The most important goal here is to exercise cutting off Taiwan from the supply of energy, food, trade, and prevent the chance for external actors to step in," Soong says of the drills.
