Beethoven's Fugue in C Major, Hess 64, is an early, three-part fugue that demonstrates technical shortcomings, likely written before his formal counterpoint studies with Albrechtsberger. Though called a fugue and sounding like one, close examination reveals rule violations, such as an irregular transposition of the subject in the second voice. It is now cataloged as WoO 215 and has been recorded by various pianists, including Steven Beck and Gianluca Cascioli, and even arranged for the organ.
