The Rendition is a 1966 Italian western film directed by Sergio Sollima with the inevitable Ennio Morricone on the soundtrack.
It is the director's most famous film, as well as one of the most popular of the spaghetti western genre. The protagonists of the film were to be Gian Maria Volonté, for the part of the Mexican, and Lee Van Cleef, who was still under contract with Alberto Grimaldi. But Sergio Sollima wasn't convinced by Volonté, as he believed it would give too "political" an imprint to the film. Instead he wanted Tomas Milian for that part, who he thought was perfect but who at the time the Italian public was not yet used to seeing acting in genre cinema, coming from a more cultured cinema, even if he had already played the part of the Mexican in the western film The Bounty Killer.
