Eiffel Tower lights up in blue and yellow to mark Ukrainian Independence Day
The Eiffel Tower was lit up in blue and yellow, the colors of Ukraine’s flag, on Sunday, August 24, as the country marks Independence Day, the 34th anniversary of Ukraine proclaiming independence from the Soviet Union.
Onlookers, draped in the Ukrainian flag, sang and took photos of the tower as it shimmered in Paris, France's capital.
Ukraine received messages of support for the occasion from around the world, including from French President, Emmanuel Macron, and other European leaders, as well as Britain's King Charles and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
On Sunday, several hundred people marched in Paris to mark Ukrainian Independence Day, calling for the country to maintain its autonomy from Russia in the event of any peace deal.
