Venezuelans join militia after US warship deployment
Venezuelans gather on Aug. 29, 2025 n Caracas to join the Bolivarian National Militia after President Nicolas Maduro’s recruitment call over rising tensions with the United States following the deployment of US warships in the Southern Caribbean. This is the second phase of enlistment events taking place in the South American country since the tension began. The recruitment process kicked off last week. Seven US warships, along with one nuclear-powered fast attack submarine, are either in the region or are expected to be there soon, bringing along more than 4,500 sailors and marines. US President Donald Trump has said combating drug cartels was a central goal for his administration and US officials have told Reuters that the military efforts aim to address threats from those cartels.
