“Plainsong” is one of the projects of the great guitarist and author Ian Matthews. After the last album recorded as part of “Fairport Convention” in 1969, he recorded a fairly successful “Matthews Southern Comfort”, which rose to the top of the British charts. But his ebullient nature did not allow him to remain in a stable successful state for long. Ian leaves the group at the peak of popularity and in 1972 forms a group that gets the name “Plainsong” and soon releases the only album “In Search Of Amelia Earhart”, dedicated to the legendary female pilot Amelia Earhart. Matthews does not abandon the usual forms of folk rock, although purely subjectively this is the most “psychedelic” work of the master. In quotes because the psychedelic here is not in fact, but rather conceptually. In the opinion of many, it’s a really big, and maybe even great record…
