Chinese President Xi Jinping and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea's (DPRK) leader Kim Jong-un underlined the importance of strategic coordination and economic cooperation during their talks in Beijing on Thursday evening.
According to Chinese state media, Xi praised the DPRK's support for China's Global Development, Security, Civilisation, and Governance initiatives, stressing the two sides should boost coordination in regional and international affairs to safeguard common interests.
He also reiterated China's position on the Korean Peninsula, noting Beijing maintains an 'objective and fair' stance and is ready to step up coordination with the DPRK to preserve peace and stability in the region.
Kim, for his part, voiced appreciation for China's position on the issues and expressed readiness to strengthen coordination with Beijing in multilateral forums, including the United Nations.
The DPRK head declared that the countries share a responsibility to carry forward the friendship forged by past leaders, underscoring Pyongyang's will to further develop ties with Beijing, expand exchanges, and deepen economic cooperation with China.
The two leaders concluded the meeting with tea and a banquet hosted by Xi.
The talks follow Kim's visit to China for commemorations of the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
