Hontiveros vows to intensify fight vs child sexual exploitation
Sen. Risa Hontiveros vows to intensify the fight against child sexual exploitation following the arrest of American fugitive Thomas Scheuer in Cebu.. Scheuer, wanted by the FBI for child sex crimes, had been hiding in the Philippines for more than 20 years and allegedly continued his abusive activities in Talisay City, Cebu. In response to a question from The Manila Times on whether her office had been monitoring Scheuer, Hontiveros said that they received a tip through an email from a concerned citizen, which prompted them to alert authorities. The senator linked the case to her campaign against technology-driven sexual abuse, including deepfake pornography.
