Ako Bicol Partylist builds 6-lane highway within Mayon's 6km danger zone
A six-lane highway built by Ako Bicol Partylist within the six-kilometer permanent danger zone set by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) around Mayon Volcano has become a route for trucks that haul materials from quarry sites in the area. The highway, a far cry from the roads in Albay where commuters experience heavy traffic and never ending reblocking, has an array of streetlights and a marker that reads 'Ako Bicol Road, Mt. Mayon Circum' and is watched by private security guards 24/7. Albay Gov. Noel Rosal ordered a two-month suspension of quarry operations across the province through Executive Order 0211 series of 2025 to regulate the extractions after the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office reported over extractions.
