Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision 2025 Triggers Voter List Deletion, Verification Controversy

2025-09-09 381 Dailymotion

Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise has triggered widespread concerns over electoral malpractice and disenfranchisement. Contradictory administrative orders—first demanding document collection, then prohibiting it, before reversing again—have left Booth Level Officers uncertain and citizens frustrated.

The process allegedly has voters being struck from electoral rolls, including seasonal migrant workers who maintain village residences and return for farming seasons. Reported cases where voters were deleted based on closed houses without thorough verification—such as a heart surgery patient temporarily relocated for medical care—have drawn particular concern.

The sudden, state-wide implementation of this verification drive, rather than a phased and closely monitored rollout, has reportedly created administrative difficulties. Citizens report being unable to re-register despite providing documentation, while public protests have emerged with allegations of vote manipulation. Critics argue that the rushed approach has had a disproportionate impact on marginalised groups, migrants, and those lacking immediate access to paperwork.
