Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, which handles relations with China, says its ultimate goal is to maintain the status quo in the Taiwan Strait. The comment is a response to Chinese Defense Minister Dong Jun's Xiangshan Security Forum remarks that China would never allow any "separatist attempts for Taiwan independence to succeed."
