Huawei Launches New AI Infrastructure After China Blocks Nvidia Hardware

Huawei unveiled new AI infrastructure at its Connect conference on Thursday, aiming to better compete with rival chipmaker Nvidia, according to TechCrunch. The Shenzhen-based company introduced SuperPoD Interconnect, a technology capable of linking up to 15,000 graphics cards, including Huawei’s Ascend AI chips, to expand compute power. The system rivals Nvidia’s NVLink, which connects AI chips for high-speed communication. While Huawei’s chips are less powerful than Nvidia’s, clustering them together increases computing capacity for training and scaling AI models. The launch comes a day after China banned domestic firms from purchasing Nvidia’s hardware.
