AquaStar issued a recall for more than 85,000 bags of shrimp across 31 states after the FDA flagged insanitary conditions at the Indonesian supplier PT, according to CBS News. The FDA said no recalled shrimp products have tested positive for cesium-137, though contamination remains a concern. Cesium-137 is used in medical devices and is also a byproduct of nuclear fission in nuclear reactors and weapons testing, the EPA says. The FDA said long-term, low-dose exposure to cesium-137 can increase cancer risk by damaging DNA in living cells. The FDA reported no illnesses but advised consumers to avoid the recalled shrimp and return or discard it for a refund. The recalled shrimp came from Indonesian supplier PT which also faced a recent Walmart shrimp recall.
