Felix Mendelssohn's "Musical Sketch in B flat" is not a single composition, but rather **the first of two "Musical Sketches" (MWV U 93), a short, lyrical Andante cantabile in B-flat major, originally intended as the slow introduction to his Caprice in B-flat minor (Op. 33 No. 3). It was published in 1833 as a pair with a turbulent G minor presto and is now known as the first of "Two Musical Sketches". The piece is characterized by light, airy melodies and complex harmonies, and has been featured in piano syllabuses, including the ABRSM Grade 7 Piano Syllabus 2025 & 2026.
