A young woman has revealed how her rare illness means she now “eats through her veins.”
Evie Toombes from Thorpe, UK, shared a viral video explaining how she receives all her meals and vital nutrients through a tube that feeds directly into her heart.
The 23-year-old plugs into a tube straight into her heart to stay alive, and she even jokes about using a coat hanger as a makeshift drip stand.
She said: “Now I use a coat hanger as a drip stand, which I personally think is genius.
“So, this line goes into a large vein above my heart and technically I eat through my veins with it.”
Evie told how she was fitted with a Hickman line just weeks ago, a tube that feeds directly into a vein above her heart.
She needs it for potassium infusions and tube feeds that replace regular meals.
On a rare trip away from home, she scrubbed and sterilised like “a maniac” to keep herself safe.
The routine means using so many alcohol wipes she claims her room “smells like an operating theatre.”
She laughs about never being able to pack light but admits packing a drip stand might be a step too far.
Instead, she props up her lifeline with a humble hanger and keeps her “Meals on Wheels” flowing.
She said: “It’s my first time away from home with my new Hickman line that was placed a couple of weeks ago.
“By this point, I’ve used enough alcohol wipes to make my room smell like an operating theatre.
“It’s no secret that I can never pack light, but packing a drip stand does seem excessive.
“Everything is up and running and my version of Meals on Wheels is sorted for the evening.”
