Why do some people cycling use the road instead of the "perfectly good"™️ cycle track by the side? Well here's a split screen of GoPro videos shot without stablilisation to show the difference in shaking on a) left side, a Surrey cycle path and b) right side, the road next to it. A rider (and cargo) is shaken much more on the cycle track because it is badly laid and maintained, thus a much more unpleasant experience under the wheels than the road. Motorists would be rioting if they had to experience a similar amount of unevenness. That's why some choose the road. Where the cycle track surface is a s good as the road, people use it. You can also see the smoother surface of the service road in part of the left hand cycle track video, and a woman walking on it in preference to using the footway.
