In Madagascar, the government imposed a curfew after social protests over the shortage of basic services escalated into riots. Hundreds of people took to the streets of the capital Antananarivo to protest against constant power cuts lasting more than twelve hours and the rationing of drinking water. Local police dispersed the demonstration with tear gas and rubber bullets, triggering a violent response from participants. The exact number of injured is still unknown. In this context, the authorities banned the demonstrations and imposed a curfew from 7 PM to 5 AM.
