Iran has rejected European attempts to trigger a UN “snapback” sanctions process, calling it “null and void.” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the U.S., UK, and France of violating the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) and abandoning diplomacy. In a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Araghchi warned that sanctions terminated under UNSCR 2231 cannot be legally revived after October 2025. He said Europe chose confrontation over cooperation despite Iran’s “fair and rational” proposals, stressing Tehran’s readiness for dialogue if demands are proportionate.
