MOTHER ORCA AND CALF SHARE SHARK MEAL IN RARE ENCOUNTER

A rare and intimate encounter between a mother orca and her calf was captured off the coast of Baja California Sur.
Valentine Chassagnon from Mexico, joined members of the local coastal community on a trip originally planned to spot mantas when news came of orcas nearby.
For many of the locals it was the first time they had ever seen the animals in the wild and what began as fear quickly turned to awe.
Valentine filmed as the mother and calf shared a shark meal before tenderly cuddling in the water.
At one point the calf carried a small piece of shark to the surface and vocalized while calmly approaching with its mother to scan the group with curiosity.
Valentine said: “It made me feel incredibly grateful and humbled. To witness such an intimate moment between a mother and her calf, and to share it with the local community, felt like a true privilege.”
“Encounters like this are not common, even if social media may give the impression that they are.”
