Residents in central Mexico cope with material losses after flooding
Cleaning and drainage work started on Tuesday, September 30, to clear floodwater from streets in a Mexico City suburb after one of the heaviest rainfall events in decades.
Heavy rains on Saturday, September 27, caused damage and forced some residents to leave their homes in Nezahualcoyotl, in the State of Mexico, according to Mexican media reports.
Residents interviewed by Reuters described the losses they suffered after the water level reached about 1.1 meters.
Mayor Adolfo Cerqueda announced on X on Tuesday that authorities had begun house-by-house cleaning and disinfection work. Some residents had sewage flooding in their homes.
