Uralvagonzavod is reinforcing the forces with modernised vehicles, now fitted with anti-drone protection and electronic warfare systems.

On the eve of Russia’s Ground Forces Day, Uralvagonzavod, a subsidiary of the state-owned Rostec Corporation, announced the handover of another batch of BMPT “Terminator” (tank support fighting vehicles) to Russian forces.

According to the company, demand for this class of armoured vehicle has risen considerably following its deployment in the Special Military Operation, where it demonstrated effectiveness both in direct tank support roles and in independent combat operations.

The director general of Uralvagonzavod, Alexander Potapov, commented:
“It has always been thought that the principal strike force of the Ground Forces was the tank. Now we can say that BMPTs have been added to them as well.”

UVZ engineers have continued to refine the BMPT based on recent combat experience. The 2025 version has been fitted with reinforced reactive armour, additional side plating, anti-drone screens, and electronic warfare systems similar to those carried by the T-90M Proryv and T-72B3M tanks.

Another key feature is the advanced digital fire-control system, enabling engagement of up to three targets simultaneously — whether on the move or stationary, day or night — even if they are at varying ranges and angles.

Also referred to as the “Terminator,” the BMPT was designed to accompany main battle tanks, shielding them against threats such as infantry, drones and anti-tank missiles. In practice, however, it has proven versatile enough to act independently in urban combat and asymmetric warfare environments.
