A teenager’s life was suddenly flipped when she discovered she was 34 weeks pregnant at 19-years-old.
After originally believing she had a form of cancer, Alexandra Henniger was soon dealt a huge shock when she learnt she was pregnant after consulting a doctor.
The now 24-year-old was left in disbelief after knowingly using birth control.
Residing in Mechanicville, New York, USA, Alexandra said: “I ended up thinking I had cancer, so I ran away from home to my boyfriend at the time.
“I ended up going to the doctor and I found out I was pregnant, and I was like ‘I’m 19, how is this possible?’
“I was on birth control, but I was not good at taking birth control and obviously at 19-years-old, it’s scary.
"When I went to the second doctor they told me, ‘Sweetie, you’re 34 weeks pregnant’ – mind you I did not have a bump."
In the moment, the whole ordeal felt ‘impossible’ to Alexandra who beforehand had been playing softball in college.
Alexandra was keen to find out more details about her pregnancy; she found out she was having a daughter and was set to give birth the day after her mum’s birthday.
Alexandra failed to accept she was pregnant at 19 as she recalled: “Whenever someone told me I was pregnant I would literally get so dizzy and nauseous. I couldn’t accept that I was pregnant."
The new mum told how some people close to her didn’t support her teen pregnancy, Alexandra immediately removed those from her life.
She began to have contractions while her mum was out celebrating her birthday, with Alexandra unable to walk to stand.
Alexandra gave birth to her daughter on her bed after her water started to break while she was sitting on the toilet.
Reflecting on her birth experience five years later, she told: “They told me, ‘Do you want to know the gender of your baby?’ Obviously, I’m going to say yes.
“It was a girl, and they had a projected birth date, and it was the day after my mum’s birthday.
“I was in the darkest time of my life. I was like God sent me this baby so obviously I accepted it.
“I didn’t really tell many people, and some people did not support that I was pregnant, and those people were quickly removed from my life.
“My mom went out to celebrate her birthday, and I took a nap and then woke up, and I was getting cramp.
“I went to the bathroom and blood came out of me. I still have this picture on my phone; when I see blood, I think the worst.
“I texted it to my mom and she was like ‘I’ll be home soon’. Within, I’m not even joking, ten minutes, I was sitting on the toilet, and my water broke, and her head was out of me.
“I got onto my bed and five minutes later I gave birth to my daughter!”
