A passenger on a JetBlue Airways flight attempted to open the emergency exit after mistaking a common aircraft noise for a dog barking. The incident occurred while the plane was still on the ground.
According to the aviation outlet Aviation A2Z, the passenger became alarmed by a sound produced by the PTU (Power Transfer Unit) — a hydraulic energy transfer system. The noise is normal during engine startup or single-engine taxiing operations.
The woman reportedly told other travelers that the aircraft was “broken” and urged the crew to stop the flight. A flight attendant restrained her before the situation could escalate.
The plane remained on the ground throughout the incident. If the woman had tried to open the door during flight, she would not have been able to do so due to the cabin pressurization system.
