Ray Harlowe And Gyp Fox – First Rays 1978 (USA, Psychedelic,Blues Rock)
Ray Harlowe and Gyp Fox - First Rays LP. Nice vinyl reissue of this rarity originally released in 1978, as a private pressing. First Rays has all the late 60's-early 70's vibes most collectors dig. Psychy, hippie, folkie and even groovy and trippy in places. An almost completely unknown US album that deserves attention. Already included in the Acid Archives bible.
Not as psychedelic as its cover and genre tags suggest. The music on here is definitely inspired by the psychedelic era, but is a lot more subdued. Much of it does sound amateurish, but that's probably due to the production. "Be Away" and "Gettin' Keyed" rock pretty well.
Very interesting
Overall I dig this...side one is definitely stronger to my ears and things sorta dip in the middle, then bounce back on the final track...I like whats going on on this lp...the guitars and organ, and even the songwriting is solid...this will need repeated listens, and may be a summertime better listen for me.
