Meerut, UP — A shocking incident unfolded at the Meerut SSP office on Thursday when Anika Shukla, wife of a sub-inspector posted at Bahsuma police station, created a ruckus demanding justice. She accused her husband, Sub-Inspector Avneesh Mishra, of deceit, assault, dowry harassment, and forcing her to abort her pregnancy.
Anika, a resident of Sadar Bazaar, Shahjahanpur, stated that she married Avneesh Mishra, a resident of Sardar Colony, Lakhimpur Kheri, on January 18, 2025. Soon after marriage, Avneesh allegedly began harassing and assaulting her.
She alleged that on August 19, she visited Bahsuma police station with her husband, where in the evening, Avneesh arrived with another woman sub-inspector, introduced her as his wife, and assaulted Anika. “He said he married me under family pressure,” Anika told police. She claimed that Avneesh kicked her in the stomach despite knowing she was pregnant, causing injuries.
Later, on August 31, Avneesh and the female sub-inspector allegedly forced her to take abortion pills, leading to a miscarriage.
Anika said that when she approached the Bahsuma police station to file a report, her complaint was ignored. The sub-inspector allegedly refused to let her stay with him. On Thursday, accompanied by her family, Anika reached the SSP office and staged a protest demanding strict action.
Taking cognisance of the matter, SSP Dr. Vipin Tada ordered CO Mawana to conduct a detailed investigation and take appropriate action against the accused officer.
The incident has raised serious concerns about abuse of power and misconduct within the police force, prompting demands for immediate departmental action.
