मुख्य चुनाव आयुक्त (CEC) ज्ञानेश कुमार ने SIR (Systematic Information Revision) फेज-2 को लेकर एक अहम बयान दिया है। उन्होंने कहा कि आधार कार्ड नागरिकता, निवास या जन्मतिथि का प्रमाण नहीं है। सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने भी अपने फैसले में स्पष्ट किया है कि आधार का उपयोग केवल पहचान के लिए किया जा सकता है। UIDAI द्वारा जारी नए आधार कार्ड पर भी यह साफ तौर पर लिखा होता है कि यह नागरिकता या जन्मतिथि का सबूत नहीं है। चुनाव आयोग का यह बयान मतदाता सूची को शुद्ध करने की प्रक्रिया से जुड़ा है, जिसमें केवल वैध मतदाताओं को शामिल करने की बात कही गई है।
