In a groundbreaking effort to tackle Delhi’s worsening air pollution, scientists from IIT Kanpur successfully conducted the city’s first-ever cloud seeding operation on Tuesday afternoon. Using a Cessna aircraft, the team released eight chemical flares over regions including Khekra, Burari, North Karol Bagh, and Mayur Vihar, dispersing silver iodide and salt particles into the atmosphere to stimulate rainfall. Officials described the trial as a technical success, noting that cloud conditions were marginal but sufficient for experimental seeding. The operation lasted about 30 minutes, with another trial scheduled later in the evening depending on weather patterns.
