Russia’s UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia delivered a forceful address after the UN Security Council vote on the U.S.-drafted Gaza resolution, accusing Washington of presenting “a cat in a bag” and pushing through a plan with unknown terms for international forces in Gaza.
Nebenzia said Russia abstained because the resolution undermines the Council’s authority, lacks transparency, and risks turning Gaza into a field for “uncontrolled experiments by the U.S. and Israel.”
He warned that the decision marks “a sad day for the Council”, arguing that its integrity and charter responsibilities were compromised.
Moscow also expressed concern that the resolution could endanger prospects for a two-state solution.
