African airlines convened in Luanda on Tuesday for the 57th African Airlines Association Annual General Assembly (AFRAA AGA), where they sought to promote unity and long-term development in the sector.

"Modernising the infrastructure, renewing the fleet, and strengthening institutions are essential steps to ensure competitiveness and long-term stability. This sector presents real opportunities for strong partnerships built on sustainable models and driven by measurable results," addressed Ricardo Viegas d'Abreu, Angolan Minister of Transport at the event.
"We're talking about fragmented regulation between the countries. We are talking also about the financing of aircraft, the proper financing of aircraft, market volatility. We are looking at it as well, so we can make better planes into fleets into Africa," remarked George Kamal, Chief Operating Officer at Kenya Airways.
The representative also underlined the significance of the assembly in bringing together the continent's operators, stressing, "We don't need to live in silos as airlines. However, we need to consolidate [...] We need to get together, and we need to work better together."
Hosted by TAAG Angola Airlines under the theme "Redefining African aviation: cooperation, sustainability, and strategic growth," the conference reportedly brought together 516 participants from 49 countries to focus on connectivity, sustainability, and strategic growth in African aviation.
The event has been held annually since the first edition in 1969.
