Post-match press conference with Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca after their 3-1 defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road in the Premier League.
Maresca admits Leeds were better than Chelsea “in all aspects” on the night and says there is “nothing we can take from this game” except to understand the mistakes and reset quickly with another match in 48 hours. He explains that the team cannot always perform at the same level after intense games against Barcelona and Arsenal, stresses the impact of rotation when key players like Moisés Caicedo, Reece James and Wesley Fofana cannot play every two or three days, and accepts that the level drops when those players are missing.
He says no one reached their best level in this match, highlights his goalkeeper and goalscorer as Chelsea’s standout performers, and reflects on how Leeds were stronger on and off the ball, in duels and second balls. Maresca also explains substituting Esteban at half-time to protect him from a possible red card after a booking, noting the emotional impact of an 18-year-old experiencing a “big, big impact” of Premier League football at Elland Road.
